The author has dealt with a variety of crises during more than 30 years. As a U.S. Foreign Service officer he was awarded a U.S. Department of State Meritorious Honor Service medal for his role in organizing and executing the ground and air evacuation of U.S. embassy personnel at the height of the Nicaraguan civil war in 1979. Subsequently, he served 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As an F.B.I. agent and crisis negotiator he was awarded many commendation awards and letters for his participation in crises from prison uprisings to aircraft highjackings and hostage takings. He also investigated financial crimes and frauds that affected the solvency of victim companies. He has been a risk management consultant in the private sector since 2002.
